Palm oil refining process

Oil refining is to remove various impurities to reach the finished edible oil standard.

The palm oil refining process is: crude palm oil - filtration - degumming - neutralization - bleaching - deodorization.

1. Palm oil filtration

Before subsequent production, crude palm oil should be filtered to remove suspended particulate impurities and other impurities.

2. Palm oil refining and degumming process

Main process flow: hand oil → heat exchanger → (adding acid) mixer → intermediate tank → (adding alkali) mixer → centrifuge → (adding water) mixer → intermediate → centrifuge → finished oil In this method, heat to 90°C Add phosphoric acid to crude oil at ~105°C and stir vigorously for about 3 minutes. Then, some of the phosphoric acid is mixed with a dilute base. After the centrifuge separates all the oil, the water is heated and left to stand, and then centrifuged at a particularly high acceleration due to gravity.

3. Palm oil refining and neutralization process

There are two neutralization methods available, physical and chemical. In principle, physical refining, namely stripping, distillation and deacidification, should be the preferred process for oil refining. Chemical neutralization method uses sodium hydroxide to neutralize free fatty acids in crude oil. Deacidification will produce soapstock and wastewater. But choose physical refining or chemical refining. This mainly depends on the quality of the crude oil.

In view of the many problems existing in reality, current petroleum processing plants are often equipped with two sets of devices, and chemical refining methods are still indispensable. Add caustic soda or soda ash to the oil to neutralize the free fatty acids in the oil. This is a very important operation. The separation of soapstock can generally be accomplished by centrifugation.

4. Palm oil refining and decolorization process

At present, the most commonly used method for oil decolorization is the activated clay adsorption decolorization method, which uses clay, a substance with strong selective adsorption, to dissolve pigments dissolved in oil or dispersed in oil into colloidal particles under certain conditions. Pigments and other impurities are removed.

Main process flow: raw oil - measurement - premixing - heating - decolorization - filtration - primary essential oil - safety filtration - decolorization oil

5. Palm oil refining and deodorization process

Deodorizing is a very important step. The deodorization temperature should be 230~250℃. The residual vacuum pressure is 6~8MmHg. In order to prevent oxidation, degassing and direct steam should be carried out before entering the tower to improve the deodorization effect. The recovery of thermal energy can be achieved through heat exchange between cold oil and hot oil.
