The Colombian government has introduced many policies to promote the development of the palm oil industry. The National Development Plan 2022-2026 updates the use of arable land and proposes to expand the ecosystem restoration area in Colombia to 1.7 million hectares by 2026 to promote sustainable growth of agriculture, including the palm oil industry. The government recently jointly issued the "Smart Initiative for Promoting Sustainable Development of Agricultural, Livestock and Fishery Production Systems and Responding to Climate Change" with the Latin American Development Bank. It will be launched in 2025 and is expected to invest US$99.9 million within 5 years to enhance the ability of the agricultural sector to cope with extreme weather and climate change, which has positive significance for the palm oil industry to cope with natural risks.
